We will be beginning our unit of study on the Romantic Period in American Literature.  Your task, either independently or with one partner, is to create a “living wall” that reflects the following pieces of information about this literary time period:

  • Historic events from this time period
  • Key writers of this literary period
  • Key works of literature of this literary period
  • Quotes from selected key works of this literary period
  • Social events/conditions of this literary/time period
  • Other key individuals who played an important role in some way during this time period.

Other requirements

  • Your “living wall” should be at least 3 feet in length; you may use the butcher paper in our library.
  • Create interesting and eye-catching labels for each component of your project.
  • Be creative—you may create materials on the computer that you can print, cut out, and paste onto your paper.  Make your artistic representation of your overview of the Romantic Period in American Literature creative, original, and interesting.
  • You may use a theme, such as “Romanticism A-Z” if you like.

Your research pathfinder is set up at http://del.icio.us/hamilton_11th/romanticism.  I will also have some print materials you may use, or you may browse the card catalog here at Cherokee at http://mediacenter/common/welcome.jsp?site=127 .  Before you begin, I recommend you view this PowerPoint created by Mrs. Denise Paswaters—it is a great overview of this literary time period and will help you get started.
