What was your reaction to this piece of literature?  What literary devices, images, or writing techniques stood out to you or got your attention?  What images, ideas, or words does he repeat to emphasize his theme or message?  What persuasive strategies of writing (emotional appeal, repetition, limited opportunity, figurative language [metaphors, similies, imagery], awareness of audience) do you think Jonathan Edwards used in this work?  Is he appealing more to a person’s emotions or logic?  How do you know?

Share your ideas in a paragraph of 7-10 sentences; provide examples and page numbers from the text if possible.

Tonight’s blog involves a two-part writing prompt.  You will write a paragraph for EACH prompt.  In other words, you need two paragraphs!

• Think about something you own that you treasure.  Then imagine how you would feel if you lost that cherished item or thing.  In a paragraph of 7-10 complete sentences, explain how you would feel if you lost that treasured item and why you would react that way.
• How would you define love?  What is love?  What is it not?  Do you think poems are a good way to convey your love for someone?  Why or why not?

Virtually all civilizations have produced origin myths to explain natural phenomena.  Today we continue to see explanations for the mysteries of nature, often turning to science and technology for answers.  Why do you think human beings in all times and places seek explanations for events beyond human control?  What do such explanations, scientific or mythical, offer?
